Growing up in South Florida you grow up going to the keys, it just is how it is. Whether it’s for the day, a weekend, or a week long getaway they keys is one of south Florida’s gem spots! It is definitely nothing like anything you have ever seen before. Here’s my favorite hotels, things to do, and restaurants when heading down to the Florida keys.
Hotels
The Islander Hotel in Islamorada
This hotel is a complete escape from both salt water and regular pools, large rooms, a fishing pier, and white sandy beach space; it is everything you will want on a quiet keys getaway. I have been coming to they islander resort since before it’s first remodel… we are talking pre guy Harvey ownership and let me tell you it only gets better with each stay.
Hyatt Centric Key West Resort and Spa in Key West
If you are looking for a hotel in Key West this is the way to go. This luxury water front hotel is only minutes from Duval street which trust me, you want to be close to in Key West. This hotel has luxurious rooms, a large pool, and spa amenities. It’s definitely one of my favorite key west resorts.
Tranquility Bay on Marathon Key
I personally haven’t been to tranquility bay however I have gotten too many recommendations to go to this gorgeous waterfront resort that it deserved to make the list. It has a fenced in beach area for enjoyment, along with large swimming pools for all kinds of enjoyment. The accommodations are both large and luxurious looking but yet very beachy and comfortable. This is definitely a very nice luxurious resort for a keys getaway.
Restaurants
Harriette’s Restaurant
Okay so these Muffin’s… let me tell you something, this place is so worth a stop! You can stop in to eat or you can take their muffins to go but either way… you need to stop for one of these muffins. My personal favorites are; Oreo Cream, Peanut Butter chocolate chip, German chocolate, Banana Nut.
Snapper’s
This colorful, fun, laid-back seafood restaurant has ocean views and some delicious rum-based tropical cocktails. This restaurant has live music, dockside seating and is one of Key Largo.
Flying Monkey’s
These frozen drinks are more than enough to put Flying Monkeys on the list and their drinks are made with REAL FRUIT. This Key west staple is a must do!!
Things To Do
Theater of the Sea
Theater of the Sea is located in Islamorada and you can swim with Atlantic bottlenose dolphins, California sea lions, and sting rays and even NURSE SHARKS!!! The site is 17-acres and also has exotic birds, lizards, crocodiles, sea turtles, game fish, sharks, and other forms of marine life. They also have short cruises and bottomless boat rides are also conducted.
Key West Hop on Hop off tour
This tour is similar to hop on hop off tours everywhere else but it’s a great way to get around and see a lot of Key west with minimal stress.
Robbie’s
Robbie’s is most known for their Tarpon feeding and it is probably the most visited place in Islamorada if not in the keys in general. Trust me it is worth the visit just to feed the tarpon. However there is some fun local shops for souvenirs for when you’re done feeding the tarpons.
Paddle Boarding / Kayaking
When at the beach, do something beachy!! Just like anywhere else by the water the keys has some of the best activities on the water!
