Ireland Road Trip with 24 hours in Portugal

Alright guys so you all know we got married but did you know we went to Ireland for our honeymoon!! Yes Ireland and it was beautiful and amazing and I cannot wait to go back but better than visiting Ireland we did a road trip through all of Ireland which was fabulous and I just wanted to give you our best tips and trips.

First of all lets start with driving on the other side of the road because it sounds terrifying and on the first day it absolutely was however by day two my husband had it down packed and I highly recommend it. You simply cannot see all of Ireland without driving it! So if you are debating renting a car absolutely do it!

Second of all I outlined our road trip for you below:

Shannon/BunRatty – We started our trip in Shannon, Ireland which is beautiful we stayed in The Bunratty Castle hotel which was nice, not my favorite hotel but nice. We also highly recommend the medieval feast at Bunratty Castle and spending the day strolling through Bunratty park!

Ennis – In Ennis we stayed at the Temple Gate hotel which was a very cute hotel but my favorite thing was the strip behind the hotel with stores and little restaurants, I absolutely loved it! While in Ennis we went to the Cliffs of Moher which is a must do! It is  breath taking, we then went to the Doolan Cave which was both nice and fascinating.

Galway – Galway is both my and my husbands favorite place we hit while in Ireland. We stayed in the Galway Bay hotel which was beautiful and a vert nice place to stay. Kay Street is so fun and entertaining, the Spanish arch is beautiful and Galway Cathedral is worth a visit, it’s grand and the architecture is worth the trip.

Kilkenny – In Kilkenny we stayed in the Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel which was one of the nicer hotels we stayed in. We went to the Kilkenny Castle which was grand and beautiful, plus Black Abby (which is a church) and although it’s not a cathedral it is amazing.

Dublin – You cannot go to Ireland and not visit Dublin, it just is not possible. We stayed at The Fleet Street Hotel which was cosy and cute. The Guinness and Jameson tour was one of the best things we did on the trip my husband got to pour his own bottle of Jameson and I engraved my own glass at Guinness after learning to pour the perfect pint of Guinness. We went to the long room at Trinity College, Grafton Street, and St. Patrick’s Cathedral; if you haven’t realized churches and cathedrals are very popular things in Ireland. You will see lots of them and they are all beautiful, visit all of them!!

Moville – On our way to Moville we drove through Northern Ireland which is it’s own separate country and stopped in Belfast, I am not going to lie… not our favorite. Moville was beautiful we stayed in RedCastle Hotel & Spa which was a little isolated and very romantic. We used our time her to have a spa day and just enjoy each others company since we were non stop for a lot of the trip.

Dublin – Our last night in Dublin was spent in the Fitzpatrick Castle which was gorgeous they were very kind to us. They upgraded us to a beautiful suite room the size of our once bedroom apartment back home.

Then we flew to Portugal and spent a day touring all of downtown Lisbon. It was beautiful, we stayed in the Intercontinental Lisbon we didn’t plan our time in Lisbon out we just spent the day touring everything we could.

We highly recommend Ireland if you have never been, don’t over plan your days because you will stumble along so much when road tripping!
